Resilience of forest ecosystems through biodiversity – insuring nature in a changing world
Webinar of the Integrate network – Online discussion
Wednesday, 03.07.24 at 16:00-17:30 (online meeting) – Please register online!
This webinar will discuss how we can support forest ecosystems to better cope with the current and future impacts of climate change:
Is it enough to rely on existing tree species stock or should we introduce those that we hope will be better adapted to future climatic conditions?
Are we taking sufficient account of the overall functioning of the forest ecosystem, including biodiversity above and below ground?
How can we respond to unpredictable climatic phenomena in forest management?
After an introduction on how forest resilience can be defined and operationalized, we will explore the role of biodiversity in forests, what potential trade-offs exist and what forest decision makers and practitioners can do to increase the resilience of forest ecosystems. This will be supported by our keynote speaker Marcus Lindner (EFI) and our three panelists from different fields of practice: Jurij Diaci (Slovenia), Serena Buscarini (Italy) and Olive Leavy (Ireland).
The webinar is organized in collaboration with the TRANFORMIT project, which aims to integrate existing practical and scientific knowledge on integrative forest management and to foster collaboration and mutual learning between science, policy and practice in Europe and internationally.
